Description

The secure and affordable supply of natural gas is an essential element of UK energy security. Today, the UK imports about half of its natural gas requirements and by the late 2020s import dependence could reach 70% or more. At present, the UK’s gas supply chain is managed by EU regulations and institutions relating to energy security, climate change and environmental policy. Brexit is coming at a time when there are already major challenges to the UK’s future gas security and uncertainty about the future role for natural gas in the national energy mix.

The ‘Future UK Gas Security Forum’ is funded by the University of Warwick’s ESRC Impact Accelerator Account and is a network comprised of academic, industry, policy making, Think-Tank and NGO experts and stakeholders involved in UK gas policy and the UK gas supply chain. In recent months, a closed group of academics from WBS (Warwick), OIES (Oxford) and UKERC met with energy professioanls from industry to consider the impact of Brexit upon future UK gas security.

This conference will allow forum members, and others, to present their views on the challenge of Brexit and future UK gas security to a wider audience that will consider the business and policy implications.
